About

Past & Present

Simone was born in Germany. Trained as a Gold and Silversmith she graduated from the Peter Behrens School of Art at the University of Applied Science Düsseldorf with a Degree in Jewellery and Product Design. In 2002 Simone moved to the UK and started up her own Jewellery Practice in 2004 with a Crafts Council setting up Grant. Simone’s workshop is based at Coburg House Art Studios in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Inspiration

Simone’s jewellery is inspired by the traditional techniques of a goldsmith working in precious metal. However, she likes to combine the precious metal with elements from the urban and rural landscape that she lives in. Simone enjoys exploring the past history of old utilitarian objects like discarded iron nails and keys or natural materials like antlers found in Scotland and discovering the beauty of these everyday things in an unlikely setting such as jewellery.

Sustainability

Recycling and the use of sustainable natural materials has been a reoccurring theme in her work.  It is important to Simone that her work should reflect current social and environmental concerns regarding the handmade, sustainability and ethically sourced materials.

For her pieces she is using Eco/recycled silver as a green alternative to sterling silver and Fairtrade gold where gold is part of the design.

Simone’s work is inspired by classical jewellery and elegant simplicity. The simplicity of her designs often belies a subtle re-interpretation or re-invention of a found object or traditional jewellery classic.
